Kindergarten to Year 6

In the Primary years our programs focus on mastery of the skills essential for success in life long learning, whilst encouraging creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and acceptance of responsibility for one's own learning.

Students of Orange Grammar are taught the syllabuses prescribed by the NSW Board of Studies and participate in the National Assessment Programs. For students in Kindergarten to Year 6 there are six key learning areas: English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE), Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).

ENGLISH

In English students learn to read, write, talk and listen. They learn about the English language and literature, and how language varies according to context and how to communicate to a range of audiences for different purposes. They learn to read for information and pleasure and about poetry, novels and plays. Approximately 35% of each week is devoted to English.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics develops students' thinking, understanding, competence with numbers, shapes and measurement. Students learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals. They learn to measure time, calculate with money, geometry, algebra and how to work with data and graphs. Approximately 20% of each week is devoted to Mathematics.

LITERACY AND NUMERACY

Orange Anglican Grammar School is participating in the NSW Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan. Funding associated with the plan is focused on strengthening whole-school approaches to literacy and numeracy, leading to improved student outcomes.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Science and Technology develops students' skills in thinking, investigating and problem solving. It gives them knowledge and skills in scientific investigation, design and applied technology.

HUMAN SOCIETY AND ITS ENVIRONMENT (HSIE)

In HSIE students learn about history, geography, civics and citizenship. They investigate personal and community identity, and gain an understanding of their nation and its place in the world.

CREATIVE ARTS

Creative Arts gives students experiences in the visual arts, music, drama and dance.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PDHPE)

Develops the knowledge, skills and attitudes students need to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
